The Beaver Valley, Grey Highlands, Georgian Bay, and Blue Mountains are all very well-known for their nature. In the municipality of Grey Highlands there are several areas offering great views and hiking. In Eugenia you will find Eugenia falls. This waterfall is the tallest in Ontario at a height of 30m, next only to Niagara Falls at a height of 53m. With hiking trails surrounding these beautiful falls to get many different views of the falls there is so much so see and photograph. Heading east on Highway 4 you will come across the small village of Feversham home to the Feversham gorge towering 80 feet over the Beaver River. There are several lookout stations, picnic areas privies, a parking lot, and a stairway to make your hiking more enjoyable. Epping Lookout and Old Baldy Conservation area both offer both offer spectacular views into the Beaver Valley and Niagara Escarpment. There is also great hiking at Old Baldy with the Bruce Trail winding through the conservation area. Grey Highlands definitely has some of the best areas for picturesque views and great hiking for the whole family!
Moving east to the Blue Mountains and Georgian Bay there is plenty more to discover. Take in views of the Village at Blue, Collingwood and even Wasaga Beach and Christian Island on a clear day at the top of the Blue Mountains. The gondola ride at Blue makes this a leisurely trip with amazing views. Further north outside of Meaford the Bighead River Conservation Area features fishing, picnic facilities, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and nature appreciation at its finest. Also close to Meaford is Irish Mountain lookout that offers some of the best views of the area there is. At the top of Irish Mountain you will get a picturesque view of the Georgian Bay and the rolling countryside below filled with apple orchards that is just amazing!
If you are in the Owen Sound area and even further north along the Bruce Peninsula there are lots of area for you to explore. The Owen Sound Centennial Tower and West Rocks Management Area both offer amazing views looking over the city of Owen Sound. West Rocks also offers links to the Bruce Trail with great hiking opportunities through hardwood forest. Around Owen Sound there are also many gorgeous waterfalls. Among them includes Inglis, Jones, and Indian Falls. Each with their own unique surroundings, rivers, and hiking opportunities they all make great trips. Further north towards Wiarton is Skinner’s Bluff, a natural area of hardwood forest, fields, and meadows with spectacular views of the Georgian Bay and close by islands. Also in this area is Bruce’s Caves Conservation Area known for its unique cave formations. This area features hardwood forest, wooded swamp, cave exploration and access to the Bruce Trail making it a great hiking experience. There is lots to explore in this area!
