1) Explore Walter’s Falls
Right beside the Walter’s Falls Inn lies the beautiful and gushing Walter’s Falls Waterfall. Standing at 14m tall this plunging waterfall is absolutely stunning. Next to the falls you can also hike the Walter’s Falls Creek Side Trail loop of the Bruce Trail. This loop can be hiked in either direction for a 2 or 4 hour hike. You can pick up a map inside the Inn, and while you’re in there grab a great bite to eat. There is always something new to explore and a different view every season. This stop is definitely day trip worthy!
2) Visit the Chatsworth Fall Fair
The Chatsworth fall fair comes around every September and is not to be missed! Held at the Chatsworth area, activities include: light riding horse show, poultry show, 4-H, rabbit show, tractor pull, a silent auction, lawn tractor rodeo, car show, live music, and so much more. 3) Spend the day on Williams Lake
In the township of Chatsworth lies the gorgeous Williams Lake where you could easily spend the day. Have a picnic at the public beach and take a dip in the lake. From there you can also launch your boat for some great fishing or paddling. To launch your boat, you just need to go to the municipal office to obtain a gate key, get a boat key and pay the according fee. Williams Lake is a motorized lake so it is also great for waterskiing and tubing! A great day on a quiet lake! This stop is a little more seasonal, but worth the wait for summer.
4) Cook Up some Delicious BBQ from Moore’s Meats
In the town of Chatsworth you can get some of the most delicious cuts of meat around. Owner Mark Moore is a 5th generation butcher and his techniques are built on traditions that were taught to him by his family. The meats are also purchased from supplies that are less than 200km away to have a minimal impact on the environment and to maintain freshness. Let me tell you, it is some of the most delicious meat around; their pork chops are amazing! Definitely a hot spot in Chatsworth!
5) Shop at Keady Market
Keady Market has got to be the biggest farmers market in the area. Walk through the rows of 250 vendors selling a variety of products including antiques, crafts, tons of local produce ranging from fruits and veggies to deli meats to homemade baking and so much more. Shop local and support local farmers and business owners! A great outing for the family to stock the cupboards at the cottage. The market runs on Tuesdays from May to October, be sure to catch it!
6) Check out the Railway Arch and Hike the Rail Trail
Explore the historic and nature filled CP rail trail in Chatsworth. A true highlight is the huge stone archway just south of the town of Chatsworth that thankfully was recently saved and restored. Take in the variety of trees, plants and wildlife as you travel your route right through the township of Chatsworth. If hiking is not for you, you can also use the rail trail for a bike ride. You’ll be sure to spot something new every time you visit the rail trail, especially on your excursions during different seasons.
7) Buy Ceramics from Marcelina’s
Located just east of Williamsford at 623262 Negro Creek Rd lies Marcelina Salazar’s ceramics studio. There she creates her beautiful handmade ceramics and has tons of pieces available for purchase including bowls, mugs, lighting fixtures and more. Her work is absolutely gorgeous, but don’t take my word for it: visit Marcelina and see for yourself! Her studio is open by appointment or chance only so be sure to call ahead.
8) Get a Pie at the Williamsford Pie Company
If you are someone with a sweet tooth this is the stop for you right here. Go to the Williamsford Pie Company and watch them make their incredible homemade pies and desserts like cinnamon buns, date squares, cranberry ginger squares, breakfast scones and more. They also serve sandwiches and special homemade soups every day. Open 7am-7pm Monday-Sunday visit them anytime during the year and get specialty treats for Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day and Thanksgiving. Always something new to try!
9) Admire the Walter’s Falls Group of Artists Art
The Chatsworth area is very lucky to be home to an extremely talented group called the Walters Falls Group of Artists. This group has art in so many mediums ranging from pastels to acrylic paintings to watercolour to stain glass to fish flies to woodwork and more. Their work is truly phenomenal. Lots of the artists have studios that you can visit at different times in the year and several participate in local studio tours. If you want to see the artists all together you can attend their annual show at the Walter’s Falls community centre at the end of August.
10) Celebrate the Holidays at the Chatsworth Santa Claus Parade
The holidays are a fantastic time of year, and you can celebrate in Chatsworth! The annual Chatsworth Santa Claus Parade in December is always a blast. Sea & Ski entered our float in 2015 and had a great time celebrating with everyone. We would highly recommend this event, it is not to be missed!
